Trace the model from households to revenue

A cookstove carbon model usually links deployment to continued household use, estimated fuel savings, emission reductions, verified credit volumes and eventual sales. Each link has its own evidence requirements and timing. A delay or shortfall at one stage can affect later cash flows.

The GreenLeaf website summarises figures from its supplied investment packet, including a planned initial rollout and an assumed credit price. Treat these as proposal inputs. Request the current approved financial model to see the source, timing and sensitivity of each assumption.

Test price, volume, costs and timing together

A useful sensitivity review changes more than one headline number. Ask what happens if fewer households use the stove consistently, measured fuel savings are lower, verification takes longer, some credits are not issued, sales occur at lower prices, or operating and regulatory costs increase.

The amount and timing of government deductions, community allocations, project expenses, fees and taxes also matter. Zimbabwe’s carbon trading regulations set out requirements and processes that should be reflected in the approved project and fund documents. Ask the Fund Manager to reconcile the model with the current rules and project status.

Distinguish a target return from an investor outcome

A target net internal rate of return is a modelled measure based on the timing and amount of assumed cash flows. It is not a promised annual payment, a guaranteed yield or a guarantee that an investor can sell units when desired. Actual distributions depend on realised project results, costs, governance decisions and the final fund terms.

The investment packet states a US$5.0 million offer while also listing 50 million units at US$0.104 each, which multiplies to US$5.2 million. It also gives different minimum-investment figures. Confirm the approved offer size, unit price, minimum subscription, distribution policy and liquidity terms directly with Redwood Asset Management before relying on any illustrative calculation.
